Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Shell & Coin (cavecreekcoffee.com) collects when you visit, why, and what you can do about it. Shell & Coin is an independent blog about Linux, crypto and personal finance. We don’t sell anything on this site, we don’t run user accounts, and we don’t sell or rent personal information to anyone.
What we collect
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles people read and how they find them. Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga) and collects information like the pages you view, how long you stay, your approximate location (city or region, derived from your IP address), your browser and device type, and the site that referred you. We use this only in aggregate, to decide what to write and what to fix. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy. You can opt out with Google’s browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.
Security, caching and server logs
The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which protects it from attacks and caches pages so they load faster. To do that, Cloudflare processes your IP address and request details and may set strictly necessary security cookies (such as __cf_bm). Our web server also keeps standard access logs (IP address, time, page requested, browser) for security and troubleshooting. These logs are rotated and are not used to identify visitors.
Author images
Author photos may be loaded from Gravatar, a service run by Automattic. When your browser loads one, Gravatar receives your IP address and browser details.
Your display preference
If you switch between light and dark mode, your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage so the site remembers it. It never leaves your device.
If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and, for guest contributors, to work with you on your article. We don’t add you to a mailing list.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one, the company you land on may set its own cookies to record that you came from us, so we can earn a commission if you buy something. That tracking happens on their site under their privacy policy. See our affiliate disclosure for details.
Your choices and rights
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works without them.
- Use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on linked above.
- Ask us what personal information we hold about you (for example, emails you sent us), or ask us to delete it. Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR or CCPA give you these rights. We’ll answer within 30 days.
Children
This site is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we add or remove a service that handles visitor data, we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date at the top.
